Ananya–CBID Ganjam Project | Bhanjanagar Block, Ganjam District, Odisha
Over the past few months, the Ananya–CBID Ganjam Project has been laying the foundation for a more inclusive Bhanjanagar by strengthening access to education, rehabilitation, and social participation for children and persons with disabilities.
A comprehensive baseline survey has provided valuable insights into the disability landscape across the block, enabling the project to identify needs and plan targeted interventions. At the community level, children with disabilities are receiving physiotherapy, speech therapy, and special education, ensuring timely support that enhances their learning, communication, and overall development. The project has also worked closely with families and frontline workers to facilitate the enrolment of children with disabilities into Anganwadi Centres and schools, promoting their right to inclusive education from an early age.
A key focus of the project has been empowering persons with disabilities to become active participants in their communities. The formation of Children's Clubs and an Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) has created safe spaces for children, youth, and adults to build confidence, exercise leadership, and advocate for their rights. At the same time, the project has facilitated access to government welfare schemes, helping eligible persons with disabilities connect to essential services and social protection.
To strengthen inclusive governance, AAINA also conducted a capacity-building programme for Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, equipping local elected representatives with the knowledge and skills to promote disability-inclusive planning and development.
Together, these initiatives are creating an enabling environment where children and persons with disabilities are not only accessing services but are also becoming active contributors to building more inclusive and resilien
