CBID Dhenkanal Project Update | April – June 2026
Supported by Karuna Trust UK, AAINA's Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Project in Kamakshyanagar, Dhenkanal, continued to strengthen access to education, rehabilitation, livelihoods, and community participation for persons with disabilities during April–June 2026.
This quarter, 90 children with disabilities received regular Home-Based Education, while 29 children benefited from physiotherapy services to improve mobility, independence, and overall well-being. The project also facilitated the enrolment of 6 children into educational institutions, ensuring greater access to inclusive learning opportunities from an early age.
Improving access to government entitlements remained a key priority. The project supported the issuance of 19 UDID Cards, facilitated 21 Disability Pensions, and enabled 57 scholarships, including Banishree, Pre-Matric, and Post-Matric scholarships. To strengthen livelihoods and independence, 5 persons with disabilities received support for Income Generation Plans (IGPs), while others gained access to essential assistive devices, including tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, and an artificial limb. The project also identified 9 new persons with disabilities and linked 4 individuals to Self-Help Groups (SHGs), fostering greater economic and social inclusion.
Building inclusive communities extended beyond service delivery. A District-Level NEP 2020 Status Sharing Workshop brought together educators and stakeholders to strengthen inclusive education, while training programmes for parents and youth enhanced community capacity to support children with disabilities and promote disability inclusion at the grassroots.
Community engagement remained a cornerstone of the project. Activities marking World Environment Day encouraged collective action for a cleaner, more inclusive environment, while the Raja Festival Celebration brought together over 500 participants to promote menstrual dignity, gender equality, and the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in community life.
Together with families, government departments, schools, community leaders, and local volunteers, the CBID Dhenkanal Project continues to build communities where every child can learn, every person can participate, and inclusion becomes a lived reality for all.
