District Level Child Rights Week Celebration by PACS

aaina celebrated district level Child Rights Week at Banani Kala Sangam, Phulbani on 17th November 2012. Children from Phulbani, Tikabali, Phiringia, G. Udaygiri, Raikia, Khajuripada and Harbhanga came to attend the event. There were 150 participants present in the event. A 4 KM rally by children was organized in the town of Phulbani with Planck card spreading the massage of rights of children and right to education for person with disability. The Chief Guest for the program was Mr. Bisworanjan Nayak, BDO Phulbani, Chief Speaker was Mr. V. V. Ram Das (Advocate & Bar Association X President), and Honorable Guest was Mr. Biranchi Narayan Mishra, BRCC Phulbani. Mr. Dillip Biswal, Project Director aaina. Ms. Swaha Das, programme Manager were present as well. Ms. Swaha welcomed all the guests. The Chief Guest gave his valuable suggestion on child rights, child protection and child innovation. He encouraged all the children to get education in order to fulfill their dreams. The Chief Speaker Mr. Ram Das spoke on the rights of children written in UNCRC, child labour and briefly informed about JJB Act in a form of a story. He explained how a child can access law and also spoke on rights of development, rights of survival, rights of participation and rights of protection. On the lighter side of the event, competitions were conducted such as song competition, dance competition, one act play and fancy dress competition where children from different children clubs performed in front of the guest. Before the district level programme, various types of competitions were organized at block level as well. These included debate, running and musical chair competition among 40 schools in the concerned blocks. Two hundred and fifty children including children with disabilities from 7 blocks participated in sports and other events in their own Blocks. BDO and other guests gave awards to 40 selected children for their best performance in sports and cultural programme. Media groups such as Manthan, Sarvasadharan and Samvad covered the event.
